We live in a society that does not know what to do with prosperity.  The current economic crisis we are in as a nation is a testament to that.  Through the 90’s and 2000’s our economy and nation prospered.  Even still today we are one of the wealthiest nations in the world.  Our standard of poor is some countries’ standard of wealthy.  We are an abundantly blessed nation.

If that is the case, then what is causing the unprecedented foreclosures?  Where does the high percentage of people collecting unemployment come from? The problem is much more than a downturn in the bad economy.  It is an nationwide ignorance on how to handle prosperity

The natural urge when prosperity rolls your way, is to indulge yourself.  Most people follow that indulgence.  If they get a pay raise or a new job that pays more money they increase their livelihood.  Maybe they get a new car.  Maybe they get a newer, bigger house.  Then when things go even a little sour, they do not have the finances to manage their increased livelihood and before you know it their possessions are being repossessed.

We see in Genesis 47 that Joseph directed the Pharaoh to, in times of prosperity, store up all the provisions he could because there was coming a time when those prosperous years would be consumed by years of famine.  When prosperity comes your way, the last thing you should do is increase anything outside of your savings.  That way, when the time of famine comes, you have grain in the store house ready to supply your needs.  When prosperous times are upon you, do not get wandering eyes on what to buy, put that money aside for later.
