James gives us a great perspective on our walk with God.  James 2:14 reads, “Dear friends, do you think you’ll get anywhere in this if you learn all the right words but never do anything? Does merely talking about faith indicate that a person really has it?“ (The Message)  If talking about faith is all it took then I know some of the most religious people on earth.  Because they are always talking about what God can do.

But actions always speak louder than words.  I can say I love my wife but if I never show her that I love her, my words mean nothing.  I need to buy her flowers to put in her vase.  I need to open her door for her as she gets in the car.  I need to take her out on dates.  If I do all those things then telling her I love her is not nearly as essential because I proved to her with my actions that what I said I believed.

If actions speak louder than words, then many of us are screaming our true heart’s desire to God.  We have shown God where he ranks based on what we do.  You simply can not say, “I love you God” without showing him that you mean it.  God would rather us live our love than speak our love.  Anyone can speak of their love for God, but only those who really love Him will show it.

What do your actions say about your love?  What is it that you are truly passionate about?  You can not answer this question with your heart but with your head.  Think about what you have done over the past week.  In what ways have you proven your love to God?

There are many ways you showed God you loved Him.  Every minute in prayer was you showing your love for God.  By sharing the love of God with that person at the store you were showing God how much you loved Him.   By bringing groceries over to that needy family you were showing God how much you loved Him.  By calling that person who is going through a rough time and told them you prayed for them that morning, you were telling God exactly how much He really means to you.

James said it best, “Isn’t it obvious that God-talk without God-acts is outrageous nonsense? (James 2:17, The Message).  I get accused of saying a lot of nonsensical things.  But I hope my God acts are louder than my God talks. Do more than your God talk, do your God acts.  In other words, don’t tell God you love Him, buy Him flowers.
